I just dealt with the same issue this morning.

Originally I had the navigation and the content area both floated left.  I
ended up fixing to by placing the navigation top: 0 , left: 0, position:
absolute; then adding a left margin to the content area so that it wouldn't
overlap.

Give that a shot.
