What a load of rubbish. While it's true that a verbal contract is as 
legally binding as a written one, they are notoriously hard to prove 
and give you nowhere near as much protection as a professionally 
drafted written contract. Verbal contracts are subject to a good deal 
of interpretation and proving what was said and agreed upon is almost 
impossible. It would be quite easy for the client to argue that case 
and then it would be a situation of your word against theirs.

With a reasonable number of low cost, pre-written web 
design/development contracts available to download, there really isn't 
any excuse why you shouldn't have a contract.
