Well, aside from the other problems listed here, the obvious fact is 
that all search engines follow links to determine and assess the 
content of the site.  As there will be no pages within your client's 
site linked from his site, each page will be assessed individually; as 
a site's relevance in many search engine listings are based on the 
number of pages relating to the search query, this site will be waaaay 
down the list.

You should also remind your client that Google is by no means the only 
popular search engine on the internet.
