    Not an endorsement, just a suggestion: R-Studio [1] from R-Tools. I used
it once on a hard drive that was badly ailing due to a failed power-supply
cooling fan, and it found lots of data. That's not your situation exactly, I
take it, but the tool is also supposed to be useful with destroyed MBRs and
other problems.
    There is a free demo download [2], limited only in that it won't recover
files larger than 64kb, so you can see whether or not it will be useful to
you, and pay for it only if it will be.
