Pardon my anal-ness: XML is a META language - not a markup language
in itself. There is a difference (however small). See the XML FAQ at

Exactly. Don't expect to be able to validate your pages.

I would think this would be more of a thing you might attempt in
controlled situation - an intranet for example, or a application
delivered to a specific group you control. I wouldn't attempt it in
the open web myself, due to the unpredictability of the thing.
