Ken,

A bit late in the day perhaps, but here's my ha'penny worth. I've been
working with Access for about 10 years.

>when you are writing code, what reference do you need to perform which
>functions and operations.

You only need to add references to 3rd party libraries or objects, when you
want to use them in your code. For example, if you want to play with Outlook
(send a mail, read an address book, etc) from code in Access, then you add a
reference to the Outlook type library.

Lots of vendors of software expose their objects through automation in this
way, and allow you to drive their programs through VBA code in Access, as
you've probably noticed when you scroll through the list of available
references.

I don't use ADO at all if I can avoid it...

>And, more importantly, when you are trying to do something which needs one
>of these, how do you find out which reference to make?

Um, honestly?! Mostly (blush) by guesswork and trying it out!! Also,
searching on google for sample code usually does the trick.

HTH.

Subject: [thelist] MS Access References

Hi all,

I have used Access for several years. Although I have looked mightily, I
have never been abel to find a complete list of module references. That is,
when you are writing code, what reference do you need to perform which
functions and operations.

For example, when would you need to add the MS ActiveX Data Objects 2.0
Library?

And, more importantly, when you are trying to do something which needs one
of these, how do you find out which reference to make?

TIA,

Ken
