[thelist] Weird CSS rendering in Firefox

Hi,
I'm working on a page that seems to render weird in certain browsers. Specifically, it seems to happen with Firefox 0.8 on Win2K. It also happens with Firefox 0.8, Mozilla 1.6, Epiphany 1.07 and Konqueror (not sure what version, from KDE 3.20) on SlackWare 9.1. These are almost all Gecko-based browsers, but not all. Naturally, I want my pages to work everywhere, but I wonder if this is just browser bugginess. Can anyone tell me if there's something offensive in my code?
The page is here:
http://homepage.mac.com/robday/by/index.html
The CSS is here:
http://homepage.mac.com/robday/by/blueyodel.css

When the page is not cached, it lookes like this (note the nav stuff on the left):
http://homepage.mac.com/robday/by/images/screen_capture_0.gif

If I hit refresh or resize, the page it fixes itself and the nav stuff drops back down to where it's supposed to be:
http://homepage.mac.com/robday/by/images/screen_capture_1.gif

Thanks,
Rob

P.S. I'm trying to use CSS to preload the hover images on the nav stuff, but it doesn't seem to be working. Any advice?
