Of course David meant:
charset="iso-8859-1" or chaset="iso-8859-15", which are the European 
alphabets.

windows-1252 will give more than unexpected results in other OS'es, for 
obvious reasons.

Otherwise, very interesting post.

What can be nice too, is to add a link to other languages on each page, 
and not only on the home page. No flags, either.

for details (mind the wrap!)

Oh, and if a given article is translated, a direct link to its 
translation is a good idea, too.
