doh! cancel that one... i just found out how to do it... BY READING THE
INSTRUCTIONS ON THE TOMCAT SERVER WELCOME PAGE!!

$CATALINA_HOME/conf/tomcat-users.xml to contain a user eg <user
username="admin" password="admin" roles="standard,manager,admin"/>, and
re-start tomcat. hey presto.
