In a perfect world... :). What about when you give the engineers the
end-state and they question you at every step? "Why does it have to
be that way?" And they argue points "We never did that for search
engines before" etc etc. 

The thing is, I think our developers/engineers ARE good. But theres a
status-quo problem around here. Lots of work to be done, get it done
the way we've always done it (even if that technique is 5 years old)
etc.

That's why I'm trying to be more informed on my end so I can at least
ask some intelligent questions and get them to rethink or justify
their positions.
