My beef is with the UNEXPECTED link to a PDF or some such. If I'm
warned I have no problem with deciding what to do on my own (likely I'd
choose not to click). I do tend to look at the status bar before
clicking links, but not always. It's an opinion, certainly, but my
opinion is that it is more polite to open non-HTML documents in
separate windows.

Frames obsolete? Huh? What about something like Javadoc? So much more
usable with frames than without, in my opinion.
