[thelist] DHTML "Slider" Menu

I'm trying to locate an example or a tutorial on the creation of a left
side "slider" or "slidable" menu.

And perhaps menu is the wrong term--what I'm really wanting to do is
almost have a portion of content that will sit on the left side of my
page that I can expand or collapse in order to maximize the space on the
page for the main content.

Has anyone got an example or a lead on a tutorial that might help me?
