Gotcha. Of course.

I did check for whitespace .. by dragging my mouse over the end of the
word when a full listing was displayed by PHPMyAdmin. I couldn't see a
space.

But of course, browsers don't necessarily display the whitespace. So, yes,
there's a space after each word in my database.
