Does your file have a recognized php extension?

Try adding this to .htaccess

ForceType application/x-httpd-php

If it interprets the PHP, then you are simply using an extension that
isn't mapped to the application/x-httpd-php type.

If it still does not interpret the PHP, then you have a problem with
your PHP installation.
