Unless your boss is a technophile who enjoys testing software (unlikely),
you're probably better off handing her/him the reader that you've already
tested. Your boss probably just wants something that works that s/he doesn't
have to think about.

Another alternative would be to write the reader in php and serve it up as a
web page, but I'm not sure how looking at a web page would be less effort
than looking at the intranet?
