[thelist] horizontal scrollbar in IE/Win

I have a 20 inch monitor and lots of real-estate, so I don't get the scroll
bar when opening the site, but if I slide the right border of IE to the
left, making the window smaller, the search box and hotlinks in the upper
right of the page slide to the left as well until they begin covering the
logo image in the center top of the page, and at that point the horizontal
scrollbar appears. It does appear at that point that the main horizontal
menu still has some room to further compress. I would look at your header
image margins, horizontal space, etc. It then continues to slide, as does
the menu you seem to be concerned about, so it doesn't make much sense for
the scrollbar to become active. I notice that the Career Opportunities box
on the right does not slide at all (either direction), could there be an
excessive margin to the right of this box?

Hope this helps,

Warren Vail

Subject: [thelist] horizontal scrollbar in IE/Win

I'm getting an unnecessary horizontal scrollbar in IE/Win on a site I
just launched. I think that it has something to do with the drop-down
menu, but I'm not positive.

When the page first loads in a browser window narrower than 858 pixels,
a horizontal scrollbar appears even though there is no content beyond
the right side of the window. The scrollbar disappears when you mouse
over the last item in the main horizontal menu, "Resources". The menu is
a drop-down, so I wonder if the browser is leaving too much space for
the drop-down menu to appear. If so, does any one know of a solution for
this?

A possibly related issue: when the browser window is narrower than 769
pixels, the menu jumps to the right when you first mouseover then off of
it after the page has loaded. After it has moved once, it stays put and
works fine.

Both of these issues only affect IE/Win, as far as I can tell. Versions
5.5 and 6 both exhibit this behaviour.

The site is here:

I would also welcome any other comments about the site.

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers,
Noah
