You need to put the laptop drive on the secondary channel on the standard PC
ide cable.

Be sure that it is set as a slave drive, and the primary (PC) is set as the
master.

If it is a newer motherboard, and the PC drive is newer, it may be set to
the CS(cable select position) which has the Bios figuring it out and passing
this off to the OS.

Setting it as master/slave is the quickest way of getting access to your
data.
