John B:

I really had to laugh at your request, not at you, but at your concept.

The term you are looking for is: WEB SITE.

Web sites, and other internet locations, began as non-commercial places
where information was posted, catalogued, shared, discussed, debated.

Blogs began as simple web locations where URLS of interest/benefit to other
users were posted. No boring drivel about personal tastes and problems and
activities.

The internet and web began as text only. It was intellectual, or gaming, or
technical. Now look at the mess we've created. Some beauty and some great
functionality, but loads of garbage and blah blah blah insanity.

Check out the classic book NET GAIN: Expanding Markets Through Virtual
Communities by John Hagel III and Arthur G. Armstrong (Harvard Business
School Press, 1997) for a model and the theory behind what you're interested
in.

The reason for the swing into blogs and wikis is due partly to how static
conventional web sites have become, digital brochures, online catalogs, far
from the real and original purpose of the net/web.

Internet and web = power to the user, interactivity, virtual community, pull
not push, information exchange, not a company telling what to think and what
to buy. Users sharing viewpoints, facts, expertise, and experiences, like
with Rathergate, etc. Mainstream everything is doomed.
