Perhaps someone has already said this, there's been a lot of conversation on 
this interesting topic of forms/registration usability.

But--the real solution is probably to get a group of typical users into a 
User Observation Test, see what they actually do, hear what they have to say 
as they interact with the site, take notes and/or videotape it, then have a 
focus group discussion on what they would like to see on the site.

User Observation Tests can provide unexpected insights. Assuming and 
speculating and theorizing only takes you so far.

Lots of good solid advice on this, I've enjoyed the discussion.
