1. Explain to your client that HTML is not a 'desktop publishing' solution, 
it is an Internet publishing solution.
2. Explain to your client that the Internet isn't a paper-based medium.
3. Educate your client on the fact that while standards-based solutions do 
exist in theory, their support for the browser brand that causes the most 
headaches in implementing these solutions (I'm talking about IE here) isn't 
helping technology evolve any faster to catch up to their needs.

4. Give your client this analogy: No matter how suitable they may be for 
taking the temperature in your bum, doctors never use rectal thermometers 
in your mouth.
5. The PDF solution (or some related competing solution like Flashpaper?) 
really does sound like the most viable solution.
