Thanks guys for the tips. Turns out best bet was to create a new DIV and put the background image on that and position:relative. Then position all elements inside as absolute, and voila, it works: http://www.nicktracz.com Still tweaking the design, but any comments are welcome. Validates to XHTML1.0 Strict as well! ted
