Sounds like what you want is a complete environment, and not just a
'tool.' I might suggest looking at our iPortal or VerticalMart
solution, which is intended for exactly what you want. Virtually all
site management and content management can be handled by anyone who can
use Microsoft Word. All content can be either edited online, or easily
uploaded from the users local PC without any other tools or knowledge.

Subject: [thelist] CMS HTML editing advice or how to shield users from
editing HTML in a CMS

Hello everyone,

I am building a website that I want to be updateable by the owners,
rather
than me. We have a large number of word documents that we need to offer
up
as content. A CMS is the way forward I believe.

But what I don't know is what editing facilities are available in a CMS
to
allow non-techy (ie users who can just about use Word) to edit or update
a
page without getting involved with knowing HTML. I assume that a
template
for the would be made to allow users only to have to update

The one CMS that has been put forward, seams really bad, and allows
users to
add sections to a page, based on a type of entity, but if users want to
format something, the actual HTML is visible, and can become (IMHO)
confusing and looses the focus of what is actually trying to be done,
which
is making the content updating easier and easy.

I almost like the WIKI way of being able to format a doc, by using
simple
mark-up.

So when a system like this is requested how does everyone allow users to
edit / delete / add content whilst also shielding them from HTML
formatting
codes but allows them to format a document to a degree.

I hope my explanation is clear enough!

Thanks in advance

Justin
