Hello,

In the past I have been using Macromedia Fireworks 4 for creating web
graphics. Its great for anything web related from headers to buttons to
laying out entire web pages. It has precise vector control of each
object and excellent slicing capabilities and excellent transparency
controls. It is like a combination of illustrator and photoshop together.

Now it has come time for me to upgrade - maybe. But I would like to know
what people are using today for creating and slicing web graphics. Can
it all be done in Photoshop or is Photoshop too clumsy for vector
graphics? I usually only use Photoshop for photo editing rather than
attempting to use any of its vector capabilities. But I am still using
Photoshop 6.0.1 and since then Photoshop is now at version CS. Is
Photoshop better for web graphics now that it is at version CS?

Or are people using Illustrator now that Illustrator has transparency?
Does illustrator CS have slicing capabilities? Can illistrator save each
slice into gifs and jpegs at various optimization levels?

Here are some workpaths. I currently use the first:
Fireworks
Illustrator to Photoshop to Imageready
Illustrator only

Which workpath do people find the most efficient today?

PS I handcode all the html and css that is used to assemble the graphics
in the final html page. I only intended this post as an inquiry as to
how people are now creating the artwork.

Thanks for any opinions.
