Ok, so a little more helpful info: This is done with PNGs. IE does support alpha transparency for PNGs, its just really really screwy. Read this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/ That should help you. They give background info as well as a great script to automatically make PNGs transparent in IE without the hassle.
