I very much appreciate your effort.  I tried both fixes you suggested.  With the first one it did allow the menus to roll back up on mouseout, however it did it when I moused out of the toplevel, not the dropdown, so it rendered the menu useless.

The second suggested fix seemed to put it back the way it was before it was "fixed", with the dropdowns hanging open and not rolling back up on mouseout, and obscuring the text underneath.

If it gives you any more info to work with, I got the menu method here.  His test page is pretty stripped down and the css is within the head, so it might be easier to test with:
