My experience with Hostgator was less than stellar.  Frequent 10-15 
minute outages, occasionally the server would be up, but just creeping 
along.  Never got any good answers from their support (mostly offered 
via AIM).

InmotionHosting.com and LunarPages are two low-cost options that I've 
had good experiences with.
