[thelist] defined table width and accessibility

I recently learned that a defined table width eg: width="550" is not a
good idea due to not being compatible with devices other than
computers. Has anyone else heard this? It was the first I had heard of
it, is why I am inqiring on this list. I know tables are frowned upon,
but there are cases when they are necessary. Is it o.k to set a <div>
at a certian width and then set the table to 100% of that div?
