: Subject: [thelist] Shrink MS SQL Server ldf file
:
: I've inherited a Sql Server 2000 database a
: standard backup of it is 5.3gig (7gig mdf)
: Its been in use for 3-4 years and never had
: a transaction log backup. The ldf file is 63Gig
:
: How you shrink an ldf file?
: I suspect its true size is quite small.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The quickest way involves RTM:
Start -> Program Files -> Microsoft SQL Server -> Books Online
Switch to Index tab
Type in "shrink"
The topic "Shrinking transaction logs" is the 5th topic from the top, and
explains what you need to do in some detail.
The links at the bottom of the page take you to other topics that show how
you can do this as part of your regular backup/maintenance schedule.
Cheers
Ken
