[thelist] Wireless Mac questions

Hi

I've a friend who is trying to connect to a next door neighbour's
wireless connection using a Mac Laptop with OSX, in order to connect
to the Internet.

This sounds rather unethical to me, I just wondered what the wireless
zeitgeist is atm. Right or wrong, what do you think?

Anyway, I'm going to recommend they talk to that person and try to get
permission so that they can share the cost of the connection and do it
legitimately.

So then the problem turns into that they haven't got a strong enough
signal. Is there a way of boosting the aerial on a mac laptop?

Their room is full of metal things (don't ask). I mean, literally all
around the wall shelves. Could they be having a faraday cage effect or
does that only work when the mesh is earthed and connected and even,
etc.
