Not to go that far, you can write a favelet to remove gmail ads as well.
But what would it be the point of it. If you don't like the ads then
you don't click.

imho, it won't be against the terms and conditions unless you do it
only for yourself. It's practically same as closing the ads with your
hand and not looking at them ever again. No one can blame you for
that. Plus no one can detect the removal of ads on a client's browser
since web is a pretty disconnected medium.
(it's becoming more "connected" via AJAX but that's another story)

But if yo are a corporation and force your employees to use
greasemonkey and disable gmail ads that may avoid the terms.
