Take a new hotmail address and send a mail "Hi, just testing if your 
email address is valid, sorry for any inconvenience". If it bounces, 
then you know address was invalid. If it doesn't, then it is supposedly 
valid.

Bear in mind though, that the said developer might be reading this list, 
and if he receives a mail with those words he might get suspicious :-)
