Rich -

A suggestion, take it how you like: you might want to try to persuade 
the non-profit that they're doing themselves more harm than good by 
having this type of popup. Popup blockers are popular because people 
hate popups they don't open themselves. The non-profit risks harming the 
goodwill of its visitors by implementing something that annoys them. If 
the site is well designed and written, it shouldn't be a problem for 
them to have a donation request that is effective without having to make 
it a last minute thing.
