Thanks Chris and Joshua.  I got it working with Jay's suggestion:  swap out 
the -'s for another charector, upload the image, then rename the image by 
swaping back in the -'s.

Joshua, thanks for the tip on renaming bulk files.  But, it's just not an 
option as there are dozens of other files that reference the image names 
with hyphens, and the image names in the code are dynamicly generated from 
the db.  Plus, the client has had these images for decades with hyphens in 
them long before they ever went online, and it would mean asking them to 
change their own internal file naming convention.  Not to mention that THEIR 
clients reference their products with these image names, and they order by 
EDI.  Flatly put, making them use image names without hypens is not going to 
happen.
