Matt,

Copy/pasted that table into a blank text file, renamed it .XLS and opened it
in both Excel and OpenOffice.org, and you're right, it works.

However, [on my machine] Excel removes *all* the borders from the worksheet.
When specifying <table border="1"> there's a border around the used cells
only.

It's not that big an issue, but it's an issue nonetheless...
