Oh, okay... so your process could create the code, hash it, and then add the prefix, which could then be spoken to the sales rep... right?

If you don't like hashing, there's always XOR encryption/encoding for the sake of obfuscation (I assume you don't have to worry about algorithm strength with this crowd).

The code is read back from our phone agents to sales reps on the road 
calling in the orders.

Therefore, they must look like a code they always get, be easy to jot 
down, and be random.
