It's likely that MySQL isn't listening on any ports - the servers were set up by a pretty security-savvy company. Unfortunately I don't have access to the server (it's controlled by a completely different department - don't you just love large organisations), and I ain't gonna ask...

Looks like it's PHP to the rescue.
