Certainly in the UK and possibly elsewhere the term Piracy is commonly 
used to refer to illegal copying, as in 'software piracy', 'music 
piracy', etc.  which all stems back to pirates who ripp off (in the past 
and still today) other peoples goods for thier own use/benifit - on that 
basis the use of the word is accurate.
