Flex is a technology, YUI is a library :-) There is just no comparison.

+1 :)

In web applications I develop I use my own library (s at rdalya). This makes me
debug and test optimize my framework in production. Hence I manage to add
more features to my library while analyzing clients' requirements.

What I'm trying to say is, if you want to learn AJAX, DOM-scripting, Object
Based JavaScript coding, unobtrusive client-side scripting... re-inventing
the wheel is an excellent option (imho, ymmv of course).

However, if you are running out of time there is a dozen of excellent
frameworks out there like protoype, YUI, script.aculo.us... [1]
