[thelist] How do screen readers read phone numbers?

Whatever the setting, it is likely that screenreader users understand what
is intended. As long as the "phrase" is read in context such as "my phone
number is 888-555-1212" then the user would understand even if the hyphens
were read out. Also, some people write phone numbers with spaces "800 555
1515", hyphens "888-555-1212", parentheses "(888) 555-1212" and even dots "
888.555.1212" and JAWS may not be able to interpret all of these formats so
there is some dependency on the intellegence of the user.
