Hi Peter,

I absolutely agree that OPTGROUP is a much more elegant 
Route. Especially because it blocks selection of the 
'invalid' values.

E.g. http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_optgroup.asp


But I have seen sites that approximated that functionality 
by using values offset by special characters like '*' or 
set in different colors.

I'm not advocating it - just noting that it exists in 'the wild.'
