OS/2 Presentation Manager has a Rotary Slider

This is a rotary knob which has an index circle near the edge of the 
control.

Click the mouse on the index circle and drag (rotate) the control with 
the mouse pointer to where ever you want. No need to move the mouse 
pointer outside the control.

There was also an option to have a small scale readout window.

It worked magnificently.

Sometimes a knob makes more sense than a slider.
