If I recall correctly, there is some kind of query limit for Google SOAP search results...
Are you exceeding the 1000 query a day (from memory) limit?

If your organisation can afford it, I recommend something like the Google Mini for high-quality search results with their own branding.
It can be a beast to customise (in terms of look & feel) but the box is unbeatable for results, speed and cost.
