[thelist] client works sheets - good or bad or just

Client worksheets work really well when the client needs to
fully understand what they are getting into.

You do this to:

1) Set expectations about the budget and scope of work

2) Make them understand that certain projects will require work
on their opart for data, content, banking requirements and so
forth.

That being said, if you buy an off the shelf questionaire that
asks them about generics like "how they feel about red" ... or
simply hit them with a daunting 150 question piece of homework -
it is not going to be well received.

A small business owner (under 5 million) is going to be too busy
for that much homework.

We worked up our 2 main docs to put in front of clients from
Proposal Kit's - http://www.proposalkit.com/info.htm

Most of our salesfolk use the questionaire while working with
the client to ensure our development teams get everything they
need. In some cases, we will give it to the client ... but this
is usually those larger-organizational-love-meetings typ[e that
will chew on that "make work' doc for a month before you see it
back. :)

The document we seem to live and die by is our ecommerce
questionaire & worksheets that cover everything from what the
tax tables need to be - to various shipping options for a
store... all of which rob you time & money if you cannot get a
concrete answer out of a client and have to scramble to program
these later.

As for the Time & Materials & Fixed contracts - making the
client spell it out helps you with those change requests you can
bill for later on because it shifts the decision making to them.

Anyway, 5:30am 2 cents...
