No, i had that error for localhost at one point but i resolved it. The error
i get when i try and access it via my external ip address is simply the
standard could not connect to the web address. But it takes a long time for
it to happen.
I have just turned on logging, so i shall go and try see what i shal see. 
Yeah i am forwarding port 80 easy enough

Have you got at page on the server to try and view?  What is the error
you see in the browser?  Is it a 500 error?  Complaining about "Cannot
find server or DNS" something something?

I shouldn't think a special name is required, just make sure you're
forwarding port 80 :)
