Free photos

   - Stock.XCHNG <http://www.sxc.hu/> - massive collection of quality
user-submitted images, with different licenses for each image, most of them
just being attribution or even just "tell me how you used it". Definately
   the best.
   - everystockphoto <http://www.everystockphoto.com/> - collects 15 large
free sites together, search in one place. Most of the results seem to come
   from Stock.XCHNG or flickr.
   - PD photo <http://pdphoto.org/> - not that many photos available, but
they are free, with different licenses for each image.
   - Image * After <http://www.imageafter.com/> - quite a lot of images,
   also has textures.
   - OPENPHOTO <http://www.openphoto.net/> - another free user-submitted
image site, quite high quality, but not that many images available.
   - FreeStockPhotos.com <http://freestockphotos.com/> - limited collection.

   - Morguefile <http://www.morguefile.com/> - yet another free site with
   quite a large collection.

Paid photos

   - istockphoto <http://www.istockphoto.com/> - a nice Web2.0 style site
with quite a large collection of quality user-submitted images, very good
value for money. Also has vector illustrations.
   - Big Stock Photo <http://www.bigstockphoto.com/> - massive collection of
images, well organised for browsing, and works out cheaply if you buy a lot
   of "credits".
   - Stock Visuals <http://www.stockvisuals.com/> - professional, but not
   that many photos available
   - Corbis <http://www.corbis.com/> - another massive collection, but
   expensive.
   - Getty Images <http://www.gettyimages.com/> - massive collection of
expensive corporate wank, also accessible through
photodisk.com<http://www.photodisk.com/>
   - fotosearch <http://www.fotosearch.com/> - another meta-search site that
combines 100 different paid stock photo sites.

Other

   - flickr <http://flickr.com/> massive collection, although inconsistent
since this is really a photo storage service, and you have to email and ask
   the photographer for permission.
   - Google images <http://images.google.com/> massive collection, although
inconsistent and you have to email and ask the photographer for permission.
   - Buzznet <http://www.buzznet.com/> another photo storage service and
this one is really focussed on fan photos of bands.
