hi todd,
building the menu from folder contents can be a bit clumsy in my opinion, 
although i have used it as a novice on occasion, it depends if you were 
going to have config files or special include files for a page, in which 
case it could get messy.
if the entire site is database driven then imo i think it would be good to 
keep the menu database driven. a database can handle this very well usually 
without much complaint.
