I would upgrade if you get the chance, but in the meantime - why not run 
  MS SQL Express 2005? With MS SQL Studio Manager you should be able to 
take the backups and import them into Express 2005. Or whatever 
myLittleBackup does with the data.

That should band-aid it for a while.
