?! I've been involved with web applications that needed all the real
estate possible to effectively show a spreadsheet-like data table,
and even then some compromises were required.
OTOH, the iPad is 1024x768, which might be significant if your site
is consumer-oriented (and other vendors rush out copycat tablets).
And then there's the whole mobile issue, where 480x320 (HVGA) is
the smartphone `new black`.
Picking a canonical target resolution isn't getting easier :-)
