[thelist] Using Flash on a website

Not wanting to flog a dead horse, but older machines, and newer
machines without the right drivers (esp Unix-based) can take huge
performance hits from Flash.

If these huge caveats are not enough, go back to the usability argument:

People looking for restaurants on the internet want to see the menu,
wine list, get a clear idea of where it is, and booking information.
90% of the ones I see fail to provide at least half of the features
above and overcompensate with huge chunks of irrelevant, vapid,
20-year-old notion of 'stylish' to compensate.

The key objective in putting a restaurant online should be to bring
out its existing selling points to a wider audience — not creating new
ones for the satisfaction of the owners. Let their existing branding
and their natural assets come to the forefront rather than creating
new content distracting the user from the important information they
came to see — wanting to do the opposite is a sign they have something
to hide or don't trust their own business.
