[Javascript] perl regular expression problem?

first off, is ANYONE on the list comfortable with regular expressions as perl uses them?  if no one volunteers to field the question, I won't ask, given that this is a JAVASCRIPT medium... but i'm freakin' out up here and looking for any avenue for
possible help...
